About this ranking
This is Coaster Index's tallest coasters ranking for California, covering the top 25 operating installations in the state by height. State-level rankings are useful for planning a road trip without leaving a single state — most U.S. coaster destinations cluster within a few hours of each other, and a state-level shortlist makes it possible to design a multi-park weekend that hits two or three ranked coasters in a single trip.
The list pulls from every coaster we hold for California, filtered to those with valid height data and sorted automatically. Positions move whenever a new installation opens or an existing coaster's figures are revised, so the ranking is a snapshot rather than a permanent leaderboard.
